Marxism and ecology: World at a Crossroads conference background readings

July 22, 2011-- Links International Journal of Socialist Renewal/Climate and Capitalism -- The second World at a Crossroads; Climate Change, Social Change conference will be held in Melbourne Australia, September 30-October 3, 2011. Links International Journal of Socialist Renewal is proud to be one of the co-sponsors of the conference and urges all its readers to attend, if at all possible. Click here to register.

The conference aims to contribute towards understanding and collective action, in Australia and internationally, to urgently address the climate and social emergencies that we must overcome if humanity and the planet are to not only survive, but thrive.

The conference is sponsored by the Office of Environmental Programs, Melbourne University, and organised and co-sponsored by Green Left Weekly, Resistance and the Socialist Alliance. Other co-sponsors include Friends of the Earth (Melbourne), the Labor Party Pakistan and Sydney University Political Economy Society.

Links International Journal of Socialist Renewal has prepared the following collections of articles on some of  the issues that will be discussed at the conference. (And they are also useful guides for people who cannot attend.)

As well as the articles below, please also explore Climate and Capitalism, an online journal focusing on capitalism, climate change and the ecosocialist alternative, which is an invaluable source for background to the topics that will be discussed at the conference. Climate and Capitalism editor Ian Angus is a featured international speaker at the conference.
